For a long time we have been burdened with developing teaching material for indigenous people.
There are many issues with current bible study material that is currently available for mainstream Christians.
Even though we are all living in Australia, there is a great range of languages spoken in the Indigenous communities. This means people do not have access to material in their mother tongue. Many of us struggle to understand many biblical issues that are written in our mother tongue. Give us those resources in another language that we know a little of, and we would struggle too.
A lot of our material is not written in the way remote people speak. This adds another dimension to the problem of getting Biblical teaching material to address the need.
Literacy is also a problem as many people have not be able to attend a school when young, or have not been able to learn to read well in the system they attended. Keeping in mind that most books are not written in the mother tongue, and not written culturally for the Indigenous people.
For a number of years we were trying to develop this material, but coming to many obstacles we did not have the knowledge to over come.
To make a long story short, after speaking to Kevin Murray, we went to talk to GRN. When we saw what GRN had up and running, we were very surprised. What we were trying to accomplish, GRN was already doing it.
After a lot of praying, we felt led to apply to GRN and continue the work God had laid upon our hearts.
There is no point in trying to reinvent the wheel. Working with GRN has enabled us to work more efficiently and quicker on the teaching material than we would be doing by ourselves.
