Deputation

Dennis will be visiting churches in the Gippsland area in March 2016.

Glenys will be staying home with Nelita as she is starting in a new school in Maitland.
We will have to take some time out of school when we travel up north, so we would like to keep her in school as much as possible before we leave.

For those of you in the Gippsland area who would like a visit, please let us know. It could be just a personal visit to catch up, home groups, bible study groups or church services. Dennis is flexible.
We will be visiting some churches in NSW and Vic as well, depending on time.  Please let us know if you would like a visit, or even a phone call to let you know about the different mission work we will be doing.
Remember you can look at the GRN link for more information about the mission too.

Training

September and October this year were spent at the GRN office learning the ropes.
We took Nelita with us and home schooled her during this time. It was a bit of a juggling act, but we all survived!

During this time, Dennis spent the majority of his time learning the recording and editing side of the work.

This is Dennis setting up the recording with  another recordist, Henry. The equipment had to be set up and ready to record.  Nelita was being used as an honorary language helper.

Dennis has been set up with his kit and now has to spend time practicing setting up, recording and editing the material before we venture out.

Glenys spent her time learning about the process of writing scripts. A script is the story written, usually in English and taken on field.

The recordist then works with a language helper to put the script into local language.

Many scripts were written a number of years ago, so they need to be reviewed and rewritten as needed.

Nelita was also given jobs to do while at GRN.
A machine called a SABRE is made in the GRN warehouse. More info about the sabre will be forthcoming.
Nelita spent a great deal of time helping to put these machines together.

We all learned the ropes of the office, met the people, talked about how and why things work like they do with the mission.

Apart from having to learn to live in Sydney and drive in the traffic, it was a great time of fellowship and learning

Arriving at GRN

Just letting you all know a little about our journey to Global Recordings Network (GRN)

For a long time we have been burdened with developing teaching material for indigenous people.

There are many issues with current bible study material that is currently available for mainstream Christians.

Even though we are all living in Australia, there is a great range of languages spoken in the Indigenous communities. This means people do not have access to material in their mother tongue. Many of us struggle to understand many biblical issues that are written in our mother tongue. Give us those resources in another language that we know a little of, and we would struggle too.

A lot of our material is not written in the way remote people speak. This adds another dimension to the problem of getting Biblical teaching material to address the need.

Literacy is also a problem as many people have not be able to attend a school when young, or have not been able to learn to read well in the system they attended. Keeping in mind that most books are not written in the mother tongue, and not written culturally for the Indigenous people.

For a number of years  we were trying to develop this material, but coming to many obstacles we did not have the knowledge to  over come.

To make a long story short, after speaking to Kevin Murray, we went to talk to GRN. When we saw what GRN had up and running, we  were very surprised. What we were trying to accomplish, GRN was already doing it.

After a lot of praying, we felt led to apply to GRN and continue the work God had laid upon our hearts.

There is no point in trying to reinvent the wheel. Working with GRN has enabled us to work more efficiently and quicker on the teaching material than we would be doing by ourselves.

Please take the time to look at the GRN link and see what is happening on this front. It is very exciting.
