Training

September and October this year were spent at the GRN office learning the ropes.
We took Nelita with us and home schooled her during this time. It was a bit of a juggling act, but we all survived!

During this time, Dennis spent the majority of his time learning the recording and editing side of the work.

This is Dennis setting up the recording with  another recordist, Henry. The equipment had to be set up and ready to record.  Nelita was being used as an honorary language helper.

Dennis has been set up with his kit and now has to spend time practicing setting up, recording and editing the material before we venture out.

Glenys spent her time learning about the process of writing scripts. A script is the story written, usually in English and taken on field.

The recordist then works with a language helper to put the script into local language.

Many scripts were written a number of years ago, so they need to be reviewed and rewritten as needed.

Nelita was also given jobs to do while at GRN.
A machine called a SABRE is made in the GRN warehouse. More info about the sabre will be forthcoming.
Nelita spent a great deal of time helping to put these machines together.

We all learned the ropes of the office, met the people, talked about how and why things work like they do with the mission.

Apart from having to learn to live in Sydney and drive in the traffic, it was a great time of fellowship and learning
